2024 Commencement Freeze Starts June 7

In keeping with Stanford’s commitment to ensure end-of-year activities flow smoothly for our students before and during commencement, University IT (UIT) supports the annual commencement freeze. In collaboration with the Registrar’s Office, this freeze helps ensure the campus IT environment remains as stable as possible so that commencement-related activities are not interrupted by planned or unplanned outages.

This year, commencement activities begin on June 14, with the primary commencement events taking place during the weekend of June 18. Accordingly, the campus-wide commencement freeze dates are the morning of Friday, June 7, through 5 p.m. on Thursday, June 20.

UIT is rigorous about not making any changes that could interrupt the campus network backbone, phone systems, Axess and PeopleSoft applications, and related services during the freeze period. Likewise, we do not alter core services like networking, storage, email, calendar, or authentication services (e.g., single sign-on, two-step authentication, Cardinal Key).

Please be mindful of the following information during this freeze period:

  • No changes to any systems should be made during this time to prevent affecting commencement activities.
  • IT changes to local school and unit systems should be postponed until after commencement.
  • Emergency changes to fix existing problems and restore service should still move forward.
  • Exception processing is available at change.stanford.edu/freeze
