University IT (UIT) supports the annual commencement freeze in line with Stanford’s commitment to ensuring that commencement activities—both before and after the event—proceed smoothly for our students, faculty, student support offices, and UIT support teams. In collaboration with the Registrar’s Office, this freeze helps maintain stability across Axess applications and campus IT environments, preventing interruptions from planned or unplanned outages. This ensures that staff, students, and faculty can support graduation activities with minimal disruption.
This year, commencement activities begin on June 14. Accordingly, the campus-wide commencement freeze dates are the morning of Friday, June 6, through 5 p.m. on Thursday, June 19.
UIT is committed to not making any changes that could interrupt the campus network backbone, phone systems, Axess and PeopleSoft applications, and related services during the freeze period. Likewise, we do not alter core services like networking, storage, email, calendar, or authentication services (e.g., single sign-on, two-step authentication, Cardinal Key).
Please be mindful of the following information during this freeze period:
- No changes to any systems should be made during this time to prevent affecting commencement activities.
- IT changes to local school and unit systems should be postponed until after commencement.
- Emergency changes, such as data fixes, resolving existing problems, and restoring down services, should still move forward.
- Exception processing is available on the University IT Freeze Information webpage.
