Ben Rogers Selected as Executive Director of Stanford Research Computing

Ben Rogers, Executive Director of Stanford Research Computing

Dear Colleagues:

After an international search, we are delighted to announce Ben Rogers will be joining Stanford Research Computing as its new Executive Director, effective May 12.

Ben will report jointly to the Vice Provost and Dean of Research and University Chief Information Officer, ensuring strong alignment between our research community and their computing infrastructure needs.

Ben has extensive leadership experience and innovation in research computing and IT infrastructure. As the inaugural Director of Research Services, Ben built the University of Iowa's research computing program from the ground up. Under his leadership, the university was a national leader in innovative campus-wide research data storage solutions and research technology compliance services.

Ben was also instrumental in the development of technology services supporting the University of Iowa Informatics Initiative that enabled data science across all campus research domains. In particular, he built a highly successful high-performance computing infrastructure system that supported thousands of users across 11 colleges. Ben also developed innovative processes to reduce the time researchers spent navigating compliance hurdles.

In addition, Ben has extensive experience with IT infrastructure, including server virtualization and network infrastructure refreshes, leading efforts to increase system availability, and implementing improved redundancy measures. In his most recent role as executive director of Enterprise Infrastructure, he led a team of 70 staff with a $19M yearly operating budget.

We would like to convey our thanks to Nan McKenna, who ably served as Interim Executive Director of Stanford Research Computing for the last six months, which included the successful launch of Marlowe.

We are excited to introduce Ben to our community, and hope you will have the opportunity to engage with him soon. Please join us in welcoming Ben to Stanford!

Steve Gallagher, University Chief Information Officer
David Studdert, Vice Provost and Dean of Research
