New enhancements for Authority Manager, the Stanford-developed tool used to manage access to the university's many administrative systems, will be released June 21.
With the change, users will notice a refreshed home page and new features in the app. However, the core functions of viewing, granting, and revoking authority will feel familiar. We’re updating instructional documentation, but additional training will not be needed to navigate the system.

Creating a better user experience
With added features that use new technology, a more intuitive homepage, a consolidated Granting Authority Wizard, and more robust searching and filtering capabilities, managing authority — particularly when it comes to onboarding and offboarding staff —will take less time.
Why we’re making changes
As the number of business applications in use at Stanford has increased, so has the complexity of managing access to our data and systems. Today, Authority Manager contains hundreds of unique privileges, many with their own set of limits and conditions. Campus users have communicated their desire for updated functionality to make the processes for managing authority more efficient.
Sharing the news
Information has already been shared through several forums and emails. Upcoming communications include:
- Emails with links to new online instructional documentation plus an invitation to attend pre-and post-launch system demos will be sent to those who have granted authority in the past two years.
- An article on the University IT (UIT) news website, distributed in the UIT newsletter and cross-promoted in the Fingate Newsroom, HR Insider, and Stanford Today portal.
