Stanford Research Computing Facility Planned Shutdown June 26-July 3, 2023

The Stanford Research Computing Facility (SRCF) is scheduled for a required full building power shutdown in late June 2023. The power outage will take place beginning the early hours of Monday, June 26, 2023, and last until the evening of Tuesday, July 3, 2023. The week selected for this was the least disruptive post-construction, based on consultation with major research projects and schedules.

Construction of SRCF2

Demand for the SRCF, a highly effective data center, has grown so much that an identical facility (SRCF2) has been under construction at SLAC, set to open this summer. In order to get power up and running (which is much more complicated than just flipping a switch), all power to SRCF will need to be shut down, affecting all servers, equipment, and generators. This shutdown will enable safe access to the 12kV infrastructure while bringing power to the new facility.

More information to come

More detailed information will be shared as the shutdown date approaches and added to the SRCF Shutdown page soon. A drop-in session is available for SRCF technical support staff with the Stanford Research Computing team on Feb. 15, 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in Polya Hall, room 170B, on the main campus. We encourage you to share this opportunity with your researchers to raise awareness and address any concerns well ahead of the planned shutdown. System administrators will then communicate with their user communities and other clients.
