Dec. 2, 2021 security update will improve data encryption on web.stanford.edu.

University IT (UIT) will perform security updates to the shared web servers (web.stanford.edu) starting at 6 a.m. Dec. 2, 2021. This update will enforce the use of TLS1.2 and affect all websites hosted on the central servers. However, your ability to access these sites will not change unless you’re running a significantly older version of a web browser.

Why are we updating?

The current service uses older security protocols that are susceptible to online attacks. The upgrade will improve data encryption on all the shared web servers.

Less than 1% of web browsers will be impacted by this update. However, older web browsers may display errors indicating a web.stanford.edu site can’t be reached.

Please make sure your organization’s computers are running the latest version of their web browsers.

Before upgrading browsers, please review UIT’s browser recommendations to ensure the latest version is compatible with Stanford's administrative applications.
