Campus IT Plan Highlights Enterprise System Strategies for 2021 and Beyond

The 2021-22 Campus IT Plan (CITP) — now in its third year — captures the forward-looking IT strategies and technology efforts of 23 participating schools and units across our Stanford IT Community. Within the plan, you’ll find common themes that have influenced our collective IT work, including Stanford’s Long-Range Vision, COVID-19 response, the prioritization of diversity, equity, and inclusion, and many more.

Also, new to this year’s plan are visions, strategies, and roadmaps for enterprise-level initiatives. Building on the groundwork laid by the IT Community in previous years, the CIO Council took an active role in shaping the new vision statements, which reflect where we want to be in each of the 10 strategic areas. With these visions at the forefront, the CITP is now a “living” plan for our stakeholders across the Stanford community to reference as technology roadmaps continually evolve.

“Our goal is to elevate the Campus IT Plan from a collection of current IT efforts to a working repository of strategies,” said Steve Gallagher, Stanford CIO. “This will serve as the north star for our work now and into the future.”

Technology Governance Council roadmaps and strategies

With Stanford’s expansive and interdependent enterprise technology landscape, this year’s Campus IT Plan references The Technology Governance Councils and how they, in conjunction with the Campus Working Group, inform the strategic roadmaps within several of the 10 strategic areas.

The councils provide long-term guidance for IT at Stanford, working closely with business owners to ensure alignment with Stanford’s Long-Range Vision and overall strategic direction. On each campus unit page, an IT strategy overview summarizes the unit’s most strategic and important work, many of which are interconnected with larger, enterprise-level initiatives.

Stanford’s Renew-Extend-Replace (RER) framework is one of those enterprise-level initiatives that has a significant impact on our collective IT work. RER outlines a 10-year plan to leverage and extend current investments in enterprise systems and infrastructures and to respond to end-of-life announcements from Oracle/PeopleSoft and other vendors.
