Stanford’s 2026 IT Client Satisfaction Survey Results

Note: This message was sent by email to the Stanford community on July 15, 2026, from CIO Council co-chairs Steve Gallagher and Andy Miller.

Dear Stanford community,

Thank you for participating in Stanford's 2026 IT Client Satisfaction Survey. We appreciate the thoughtful feedback you've shared about your technology needs, which provides us with valuable insight into where to focus our improvement efforts.

For those of you interested in seeing survey results in their entirety, the aggregated and anonymized 2026 IT Client Satisfaction Survey results are available on our Stanford IT Community website.

Overall, satisfaction levels among faculty, staff, and postdocs remain strong. Here are the other key findings:

Student experience

While overall satisfaction remains strong among faculty, staff, and postdocs, we saw a decrease in satisfaction across our undergraduate population, particularly with Wi-Fi performance and security tools. This will be an area of focus looking forward and has received budgetary support for improvements.

Bright spots

  • Cardinal Print satisfaction has increased across all segments. The largest increase is among postdocs (+14 percentage points), followed by faculty (+11 percentage points). This is particularly welcome news, as for several years, printing was seen as a point of friction for students in particular.
  • AI Playground usage and satisfaction are strong. Among those who have used AI Playground, satisfaction is high among faculty and staff.
  • Support teams receive strong appreciation. Satisfaction with operations and the client experience with support teams remains high across the board.
  • Security tools and friction. Compared to 2024, fewer survey participants are experiencing friction overall. Faculty reported a 14% drop in friction levels.

What's next

As we analyze these results in a deeper fashion at the school and unit level, we'll continue to use this feedback to prioritize our upcoming initiatives and funding requests. Through the fall, we'll share additional updates on what we've been doing to address your feedback and ensure you have the most up-to-date information about the services and support our IT organizations provide.
