Starting April 6, University IT (UIT) will cease support for specific outdated Windows 11 releases, aligning with Microsoft's discontinuation of support for those versions.
Sunsetting older releases
For years, Microsoft has discontinued support for older releases of Windows 11 based on their release numbers. On April 6, MyDevices will mark certain versions of the Windows 11 operating system as 'noncompliant' when Microsoft halts support for those releases.
Upgrade your Windows 11
Most Windows 10 editions are already noncompliant in MyDevices, and only a minority of Windows 11 users will be impacted by the change in April. These users should upgrade to the latest Windows 11 release to bring their devices into compliance. Upgrade instructions are available on Microsoft’s Install Windows Updates webpage.
Why this change
Maintaining an older Windows release that’s no longer supported could result in:
- Increased security risks
- Inconsistent user experience
- Operational disruptions
