Legacy MDM and AirWatch
Problems Encountered
Android Encryption
Android devices often stall during the encryption process leaving the user unsure of compliance status.
Migration
Many users are not taking advantage of the automation provided on the mdm.stanford.edu website. Instead they are attempting to complete the migration manually.
Occasionally the migration procedure fails leaving the device in a limbo state.
Access to Reporting for AirWatch
Per user access to reports and/or visibility to current device status is subpar. Some want more information and others think there is too much information.
Per workgroup reporting, especially device compliance status, is currently not available to departmental management and support staff.
Reporting
Would like better reporting from AirWatch on which device (where user has multiple devices) is not the current device. Users find it difficult to identify devices with the current "friendly name + last 4 of serial #".
Users would like info on the model over serial numbers and IMEI. The current display on the mdm.stanford.edu/mydevice page does not identify hardware model (i.e. iPhone 5, iPad mini, etc...)
Departmental support staff would like periodic reports of the devices they support including device status.
Repurposing Devices
Disassociating iOS devices from the user's AppleID when the device is no longer used is a problem.
One department rep reported that devices were being repurposed to other employees without removing the previous user's information or un-enrolling from MDM. The SIM card was merely being reset.
Email Profiles
There is some confusion about when email profiles are required and when it is permissible to manually configure email for a user.
There is interest in allowing for more than one email profile for users that monitor multiple email accounts as well as profiles that install group IMAP accounts.
Compliance Policies
There was an announcement of a new compliance rule rolling out. If a device is not reporting in for a long time, then AirWatch will report out of status.
