Stanford Web Services uses Podio for their CRM, and uses it to track information and statuses about leads, deals, help tickets, products, and client websites.
Podio has "apps" that are similar to content types in Drupal; you can create a data structure and attach different types of data to it (e.g. date, relationship, contact, website, plain text, number, etc).
You can also run reports from Podio, especially for analyzing business sales pipelines or running analysis on types and frequency of help tickets.
One of the most important feature of a CRM is its ability to integrate with other services; Podio has an easy "email API", but also an actual API that supports integrations with lots of other applications.
Zapier is a common tool to use to connect other systems with a CRM.
GSB uses Salesforce as their CRM, and has been developing applications on top of it.
They have integrated their admissions data with Salesforce, and although it is a complex system, they are using it to the fullest extent.
School of Medicine is beginning to look into a CRM; having a CRM would help with knowledge transfer when staff join or leave the team.
VPTL has also been using Podio to track their communications and projects, and have also hired external vendors to assist with developing apps built on the Podio API.
