With about 20 attendees and many of whom asked to be added to the Stanford Media Group (SMG) mailing list, there was a lively discussion with folks sharing their current use cases and plans. Some of those discussions included:
- Media Asset Management
GSB is currently exploring Kaltura after their MediaCore selection was bought and not supported past August 2016. Someone mentioned that Duke just pulled the plug on Kaltura after their investment of time and money. Worth checking out.
VPTL is exploring Warped Wire (many IVY+ schools are using this) and CatDV, already being used by VPTL and GSB.
SUL is exploring/using WOWZA Media Systems.
- Share use cases
The MAM landscape is and will change. We need to develop an API to re-use assets across the University separate from any specific MAM being employed.
We need to come up with some shared use cases (e.g., ePortolio project) that would enable SMG to serve as a feeder group to the Communications Working Group. The more places that we can connect, the better for everyone.
- Webcasting / Live Streaming
OOD is webcasting its events using LiveStream and YouTube. There are many other groups interested in this technology.
COMING IN JANUARY 2016 - SMG's next meeting with the following topics: VPTL and the Communications Working Group with Brent Izutsu and Lisa Lapin
7 new members want to be added to the SMG Mailing List.
