One App to Rule (Disambiguate) Them All

Proposed By
Beth McCullough
Summary
Stanford's technical support environment is complex and may be dependent on a student's affiliation. This situation can be a challenge for students to navigate. What if there were an app (or feature of Stanford Mobile) that would determine the correct technical support option for a particular student? Come question, discuss, and brainstorm about this possibility.

Session Notes

  • Participants seemed to think this might be an idea worth pursuing and that it might have applications outside of student technology support, such as library privileges.
  • We may already have the building blocks. For example, Lenel 'knows' who is who, the Health-Check Tool serves notifications specific to an individual, and SNOW has portal logic.
  • There's probably not an app like the one proposed in existence in higher education; the idea is similar to what the Starbuck's app does.
  • We would need to have service catalogs with user access privileges. (This exists for UIT services, but would need to be created for LTS services.)
  • Such an app might fit (ultimately) into the Stanford Mobile roadmap but might start out an independent app with a bridge.
  • To move forward, leverage student voices and make the idea part of the Collective IT Consciousness™ [Molly Sharp].
