UIT to Audit ‘Privileged Accounts’

Heads up! This fall, University IT (UIT) will engage the IT Community in a project to audit Active Directory and Office 365 accounts with elevated privileges.

With your help, UIT aims to identify owners for each account with specific elevated privileges to ensure their access is still appropriate and necessary. This will be followed by efforts to:

  • Map each privileged account to a human owner
  • Create an audit model to verify and justify privileged accounts moving forward
  • Remove privileges from active accounts which are no longer appropriate or required
  • Disable individual, shared, and service accounts which do not have an owner with an active Stanford affiliation

Stay tuned for more information about these changes that will improve the security of Stanford’s Active Directory infrastructure.

Until then, you can reach out to Business Owner Joshua Barnett or Project Manager Ollie Hamilton with questions.
